Welcome to our house here at 150 Bay St. The history of our building is so unique and fascinating that we thought, why not share it with you all.

Designed by Howard Chapman, this masterpiece was one of the largest reinforced concrete structures in the nation when it was built. Consisting of concrete, applied masonry and a rigid frame, 150 Bay rose in three sections. The first section—the east wing facing Provost Street—was built in 1907. The second section—facing Bay Street to the south—was completed in 1914. Finally, the third section facing 1st Street was completed in 1915. (We are located in the 2nd section, facing Bay Street.)

The location became headquarters to The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company, known today as A&P, the first major food chain nationwide. As business expanded, 150 Bay was not only just the headquarters of the company but contained their warehouse, manufacturing plant, and an on-site bakery.

In 1978, 150 Bay became a National Historic Landmark, the only building in Jersey City to hold this designation.
